How We Review LLC Formation Services
Every rating on Comploft comes from a structured, repeatable methodology — not gut feel, not PR pitches, and not who pays us the most.
Our 6-Step Review Methodology
Here’s exactly what happens before any score appears on this site.
Service Selection
We identify which services to review based on market reach, user interest, and whether the service is a realistic option for most founders. We do not accept payment to review a service or to move it up our review queue.
- Selected by reader demand and market relevance
- No pay-to-play queue jumping
- Coverage spans the full price range — free to premium
Real Account Creation & Signup Testing
We create a real account, go through the full signup flow, and document every screen — including all upsell prompts, pricing disclosures, and plan comparisons. We note how clearly the service discloses its real cost at every step.
- Full signup flow documented with notes
- Every upsell attempt recorded
- Pricing clarity scored at checkout vs. landing page
- Account dashboard usability evaluated
Formation Filing Evaluation
Where feasible, we initiate or observe the full formation filing process — including document preparation, state submission, and turnaround time. We track how long the service takes from order to confirmed filing.
- Processing time tracked (standard and expedited)
- Document quality and accuracy reviewed
- State filing confirmation verified
- Registered agent setup process evaluated
Customer Support Testing
We contact each service’s support team via multiple channels (live chat, phone, email) with realistic questions. We score response time, accuracy, and how pushy or helpful the interaction is.
- Live chat tested with timing stopwatch
- Phone support tested during and outside business hours
- Email support response time documented
- Support accuracy scored on a standardized question bank
Pricing Audit & Hidden Fee Documentation
We document every fee a customer could reasonably encounter — including the headline price, state fees, registered agent renewal, annual report add-ons, and every optional upsell with its price. We verify these prices monthly.
- Full cost table built for each service
- Registered agent renewal price confirmed
- Auto-renewal and cancellation policy reviewed
- Prices cross-checked monthly for changes
Scoring, Writing & Publication
All gathered data is fed into our structured scoring rubric (see below). A score is calculated for each category, weighted by importance, and combined into an overall rating. A senior editor reviews the draft for accuracy before publication.
- Score calculated from objective criteria only
- No adjustment for affiliate commission rates
- Senior editorial review before publication
- Scheduled re-review cycle after publication
Our Scoring Rubric
Every category is scored on a 1–5 scale, then weighted and combined into a single overall rating. Here’s how the weight is distributed.
The remaining 10% covers user experience (ease of signup, dashboard design) and upsell transparency (how clearly optional add-ons are presented vs. hidden in the checkout flow).
Rules We Never Break
These are the editorial commitments that protect the integrity of every review we publish.
No Paid Rankings
Affiliate commissions and partnership fees are never used to influence where a service appears in our rankings. A service cannot buy a higher position on Comploft.
No Undisclosed Relationships
Every affiliate link and commercial relationship is clearly disclosed on the relevant pages. If we earn a commission from a link, we say so — every time.
Services Don’t Approve Reviews
We do not share reviews with services before publication for approval or editing. A company can flag a factual error after publication, and we’ll investigate and correct if warranted.
Corrections Are Made Promptly
If we get something wrong — a price, a feature, a policy — we correct it as soon as we’re aware. Readers can flag errors via our contact form at any time.
Negative Findings Are Published
We don’t hide poor support experiences, aggressive upsells, or confusing pricing behind positive framing. If we found it during testing, it goes in the review.
Reviews Are Regularly Updated
We review and update our scored content on a regular cycle — typically quarterly for major reviews and monthly for pricing data — so you’re never reading stale information.
What This Means for You
When you read a Comploft review, you can trust that it reflects real testing, current pricing, and an honest opinion — not a sponsored outcome.
Real Hands-On Testing
We sign up, we file, we call support. No review is written from a press release alone.
Pricing Verified Monthly
Prices change constantly. Our data is checked on a monthly cycle so you see current numbers.
Rankings by Merit Only
Our scoring rubric — not affiliate revenue — determines where each service ranks on every list.
